Since Access to Talking Therapies launched, Search has been dedicated to ensuring that the emotional wellbeing of over 50’s in the local community remains a priority. Project worker Kat Poland has strived to create and facilitate safe, confidential and friendly spaces for people waiting for counselling in addition to improving access to counselling services for those who otherwise, were unaware of the support available.
Community Development: Over the course of the project, groups and workshops developed citywide, bring focus to a range of key concepts such as: mindfulness techniques, self–care, building self-esteem and staying active through physical exercise, all of which have been received with positive enthusiasm and encouraging outcomes for Search Friends.
Moving into 2025, Search has already done some fantastic work to support people with their emotional and physical wellbeing through a challenging time. We recognise that the winter months can be tough for many, and having access to Talking Therapy, activities and community support can make a huge difference.
Workshops delivered by Kat included ‘Top Tips for Seasonal Wellness’, focusing on good nutrition and ways to practice mindfulness through winter. Other sessions featured guest speakers such as Search Energy Advice Worker Meg Henderson, who offered expertise on how to save on energy costs. A collaborative approach to work ensures Search friends receive sufficient information to alleviate stressors preventing any improvement in personal wellbeing.
It is a very exciting time for the project. We look forward to further developments and success stories as we continue in this vital cause.
