Role Description:
To work within our Support Services as part of a team developing a personalised and flexible community-based service for older people (50+) in Newcastle. The
Support Service will promote independence and increase the person’s sense of good emotional health and wellbeing. The service will support older people to live independently in their home, choose and cleaning support to improve their living standards, while also improving and maintain their health and wellbeing.
Home Help workers will work with individuals to promote their independence by giving that extra bit of support to run their home, maintain good health, or enable them to access community resources in their area, connecting them with opportunities and people in their local neighbourhood and supporting them to sustain these connections.

Role Description:
To provide information and advice, by telephone and by personal contact at the Search Advice Hubs and drop in sessions at our office in Benwell, to provide Home Energy Assessments in people’s homes and Promote the service by giving talks on energy advice at outreach venues, including Community Centres and Sheltered Housing complexes.
To provide energy switching support when it is appropriate that someone will benefit from switching tariffs. Assess the homes for small energy measures and liaise with our Handy Man for fitting.
In addition, you will identify issues such as loneliness, social isolation, and declining health, Safeguarding Concerns and refer clients to ensure they can resolve issues and effectively manage life changing events.

- To keep accurate records of those attending Search and the nature of their enquiry
- To photocopy leaflets and information
- To deal with telephone bookings for trip or activities

Necessary skills, attitudes and knowledge:
- An ability to relate to people

- A willingness to become competent in using basic computer packages such as Microsoft word

Aim of the volunteer role:
To support Search in its delivery of the Lunch Links programme. Lunch Links is a weekly Search initiative providing activities and lunch for 25-35 older people and volunteers support this both at the session and during transportation of people.
Main Tasks:
- Meet, greet and welcome people arriving at the venue.
- Generally assistance with the lunch arrangements.
- Assist people with getting on an off the minibuses.
Necessary skills, attitudes and knowledge:
- Welcoming Friends of the Lunch Club to the venue and making them feel included
- Assisting Friends of the Lunch Club to access the venue from the transport provided offering individual support as agreed with mobility.
- Assist with safe service of food and drinks as directed by the Lunch Links Organiser
- Assist with clearing tables, disposing of waste appropriately.
- Assist with washing and storage of dishes, pots, pans and cutlery.
- Enable Friends of the Lunch Club to socialise and take part in activities provided.
- Report any Health and Safety issues to the Lunch Links Organiser
- Undertake training and instruction sessions that are appropriate to the role
- Treat everyone that you come in contact with dignity and respect

Occasional volunteers:
Search is a small voluntary organisation based in Benwell. We aim to improve the quality of life of older people and their carers who are living in the West End of Newcastle.
Project description:
Over the years Search has developed and grown according to the needs of local people. It provides help and advice for older people and their carers and aims to improve their quality of life by consulting them about how best to do this and making it as enjoyable as possible. It is still growing and adapting. At present it provides a variety of activities such as walking groups, gentle exercise, art and craft sessions, and volunteering opportunities.
